VALE HEDIE

As most people know I walk in the forest most mornings. I walk with a small group of women. One of these ladies was Hedie, who passed away last month from two severe strokes. She was an amazing lady. She was originally from Iceland. She lost her husband only a few years ago. She recently visited Iceland and her twin sister and other relatives for the first time in many, many years. She lived in her house on her own and did many renovations by herself. She was a fit lady. She went to the gym for years and had done thousands of workouts. She has a daughter in NZ and a son in Brisbane.

We miss her every morning when we set off for our walk.

This was last winter, Hedie is the lady at the back of the group.

Her daughter sent us some photos from when Hedie visited her in NZ not long ago.
She was in her late seventies but you wouldn't think so she was so fit.

RIP Hedie. It was a pleasure knowing you. You were an inspiration to me, showing me how it is possible to keep going, keep walking and keep travelling. The stroke was unfair to you.
The ladies from her gym had a morning tea and raised money for the stroke foundation.

  2. I suppose we all know people who really ought not die because of their level of fitness and the interest in the outside world. It is so good that she was able to recently see family.

  9. It is always sad to hear of deaths but, at our age, inevitable. Hedie certainly was an attractive and young-looking lady for her age and the affect of her demise on the rest of her walking companions must be significant. Your post was a lovely and moving tribute.

  18. It seems very unfair that someone so fit shoud be taken away before their time. It is obvious that she will be missed.

  25. So sorry to read about the loss of your friend, Diane. It is indeed sad when people who do everything right by keeping fit and active are suddenly and inexplicably affected. It does go to show us to live life to the fullest each day and enjoy one another. It was so nice of you and your friends to get together for a fundraiser.

  26. So sorry for your loss, Diane. It's a mystery when healthy people die. However, I know that there is no guarantee for any of us. She looks like a person who lived life to the fullest. I love that top photo with the ladies walking toward the light.
