JUST WALKING IN THE RAIN

It has been raining for the last 2 months. It has been hard to find a break in the weather to go for a morning walk. Then cabin fever sets in and one must take a chance and get out for a walk. A few days ago it had stopped raining for a while so I grabbed my umbrella and took off up the street towards Daisy Hill Forest. I hadn't even got to the end of the block before it started raining again, so up with the umbrella and I pushed on. I didn't have my camera so I used my phone to try to capture the wetness. One good thing about the sub tropics is that it isn't cold when it rains.

The hot and wet weather encourages weed to grow on the lake.

The magpie geese have come to visit the lake edge. There were more than I have ever seen here before. This was just one small group.

The rain has caused the Golden Penda Trees to profusely blossom this year. The streets are lined with these native trees from north eastern Queensland.

Now I had reached the forest. The rain eased off again but it was too wet and muddy to follow the hiking trails so I stayed on the ring road through the forest.

The rain has made the grass as green as green and the tree trunks shiny. It doesn't seem long ago when this forest had been back burnt to eradicate dead undergrowth to lessen the risk of bush fires. Now the undergrowth is springing to life again and so the cycle goes on and on.
PS The sun stayed out all day today.

  2. that yellow tree is magnificent.. i would be miserable if it rained for 2 months. we have been in a drought for 4 years, and we need rain but hope it doesn't come and last that long. is this normal for you this time of year, a rainy season?

  3. I used to love walking in the rain in Qld ... as you say, the rain is warm whereas here in the mountains it makes cold.

I really a like a walk in the forest after rain, it is the heightened colour of the tree trunks that I like.

Cape York ... looking forward to the shots of that trip.

  7. Sometimes I like a rainy day but two months straight would wear on me. I do like the glistening look of the world when the rain stops - like your last shot.
I'm glad you were able to get out for a walk. Cabin fever is hard to handle. I know I can hardly wait to be able to get out and work around in the yard.

  13. We've really missed out on the wet season up here, and I'm looking at your lovely photos with a sense of longing. We could do with just a few downpours up here.

Everything looks so lush. Those Golden Pendas are just wonderful. What a fabulous sight those flowers are!

  15. The photos show that it is not the quality of the camera that really matters, but the skill of the person pressing the button. My favourite is the road in the forest.

  16. Lovely & green, things always look fresh during & just after rain. Here it's very dry, no green grass unless you water.

  18. yes been showering lightly here again this morning; I did fit a walk in early (with my brolly). Glad you mentioned the name of the Golden Penda; there is one nearby and I wondered what it was called. Hadn't seen it in flower before...

  19. Although I enjoyed the photos from your rainy walk, I'm glad you had a sunny day to enjoy. We've just gotten over another cold spell here in Tennessee -- I'm really looking forward to green grass and Spring.

  24. Tooooo much rain even if it isn't cold...butit is beautiful and green there. After living in Oregon forever w-- here the gray rainy days means your bones are chilled -- I am still surprised when it rains here in Florida ("my" subtropics). Here rain definitely does NOT equal cold!

  28. The blooms of the Golden Penda trees are just gorgeous. Even on a rainy day they really stand out. You are so right, after months of rain there comes a time when you just have to get out for a walk. I've done that a couple of times this spring.

  29. Just love the brilliant yellow of the Golden Penda trees.
You took a lot in on your walk.
The sheen of the rain has heightened the colours of nature beautifully :D)

  31. Beautiful rainy photos. I love the shiny, greens. I would love to be out in the rain, but most always when it rains in Utah, even in the summer, it is too cold to be comfortable. I am still impatiently waiting for Spring. (We left on our mission at the end of our winter and arrived in NZ at the start of their winter, then came home at the end of NZ winter in time for Utah winter. Sigh....I'm REALLY ready for some hot, dry weather!!)
