I have never known it to rain so much in May and June. They are usually the cold, dry months but now they are the wet, warm months. My regular morning walks with friends are becoming now and then walks due to the rain. We don't like to walk in the rain as it becomes slippery underfoot. We can't afford to fall at our age. Every morning I get up and look out the window to see if it is wet and rainy. More often than not this is what I see.
When the rain eases I walk down our street, my neighbour has a nice garden. The poinciana catching the rain.
When the rain eases we sneak out for a walk. We don't have many autumn trees in Brisbane, which is in the sub tropics, but we have one in our street.
Every Tuesday evening six of us play cards at Dot and Peter's home. After cards we have supper but when one of us has a birthday Dot provides a mini birthday cake. Last week it was Anne's birthday. She was 88 and still as fit and bright as ever. She is my role model. The other lady is Louise, my next door neighbour.
The weather is so unpredictable. No matter where you live everyone talks about the unseasonable weather. Yet some people still deny climate change. Your card games sound fun.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Anne and that is a great age and doing well by the look of it.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are nice, Diane. Such a beautiful Poinsettia.
It is completely understandable that you want to avoid those slippery paths, as staying safe on your morning walks has to be the top priority. Brisbane's sudden shift to a wet, warm autumn is quite a surprise, but finding that one colorful autumn tree on your street must feel like discovering a hidden gem. Those rain-soaked poinciana photos and the little fungi popping up are beautiful reminders of how nature thrives in the dampness. Happy 88th birthday to Anne, because celebrating with good friends, cards, and a mini cake is the absolute perfect way to spend a rainy Tuesday evening!
ReplyDeleteWe could use more rain here. The flowers are pretty. Happy Birthday to Anne!
ReplyDeleteTake care, Happy Monday! Have a great week!
I expect summers to be hot and dry, and winters cold and wet. In Melbourne
ReplyDeleteToo bad that the constant rain is preventing outdoors walking, but I agree that conditions can be slippery and not falling is a good plan. The bit of autumn color was lovely to see. Your friend, Anne, looked happy for her birthday celebration.
ReplyDeleteI hope the rain is good for your vegetation (as in not too much rain) even if not good for your regular walking program. Happy Birthday to your friend. She reminds me of an 91 year old friend of mine who is also my role model.
ReplyDeleteThe climate is changing very rapidly, and yet there are still people who continue to deny it.
ReplyDeleteSummers are getting hotter, that is the case in the Netherlands too, winters are becoming milder, only the past winter was somewhat colder than what we have been used to in recent years.
I think the autumn photos are beautiful.
All the best, Irma
That’s a lot of rain but makes for great photos! A lovely celebration at Dot and Peter’s home. Anne is my inspiration too :)
ReplyDeleteWe are the complete opposite. The worst heat wave ever and no rain the garden is just burnt up! Temp just now in the shade on the windowsill was just under 50C!! Take care, t'other Diane
