After Bill had a fall back in 2023 he has found walking quite an effort even though I insist he has a 15 min walk every afternoon. This meant I had to drive him to the community centre in the village when we attended functions there. So we invested in a mobility scooter for him. He has a new lease on life whizzing around the village and stopping to chat to people. I will still take him for a walk every afternoon.
The scooter arrives. It is bright green.
We had a street party last week. It is usually held outside on fold up tables and chairs but the weather was wet so Rosa offered her home for us to party in. Bill had a chat to Rosa's gingerbread man.
It was our grandson, Banjo's fourteenth birthday last week and we celebrated at a nice Italian Restaurant but silly me didn't take a photo of the birthday boy. However I took one of his mum and dad.
The mobility scooter is a brilliant idea. I go down the street with a four wheeled walker, but it is still very tiring. Bill can sit in comfort, travel quickly, shop and carry stuff easily, lucky man.

ReplyDeleteI think it is great that Bill has the scooter. It is all very well to tell older people to walk, but it can be so hard for some people and just exhausting. The scooter might well be life changing for Bill.
Oh I know your Bill is Thrilled with his new ride!! How fun!! But glad you are making him walk on his own daily! Don't use it, you lose it! That spaghetti looks great...so do the kiddos! lol

What a wonderful thing to have Diane. He will feel like a new man, going here and there. Nice photos and Happy Birthday to Banjo.
ReplyDeleteBill's new scooter is great. Happy Birthday to Banjo! Take care, have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThere'll be no stopping Bill now!
ReplyDeleteHappy 14th Birthday Banjo! What a fast 14 years that was :) Lovely you all got together to celebrate. It was great seeing Bill on his new scooter. I am taking notes as I am looking into getting one for myself. Had one in particular recommended to me by another blogging friend. How great that he can get around and visit everyone. I am looking forward to doing some of that soon :)
ReplyDeleteBill looks very happy to have his new scooter. Congratulations to him and to Banjo on his 14th birthday.
ReplyDeleteThere is something genuinely uplifting about seeing mobility returned to someone after they have struggled for a while. The bright green scooter somehow makes the whole story even happier because it feels cheerful and full of personality rather than purely practical. What stood out most to me was not just the scooter itself, but the effect it immediately had on Bill’s independence and social life. Being able to move around the village freely again, stop to chat with neighbours, and attend community events without relying entirely on someone else changes a person emotionally as much as physically. That “big smile” everyone noticed probably says everything.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Banjo! I love all your photos, Diane. What a joy seeing Bill on the scooter!
ReplyDeleteYes I can see it All smiles on his new flash scooter. It helps to get around and good of you to encourage him to still walk a bit
ReplyDeleteThat's a good purchase !! I think I will end up like that too with my breathing problems. So far I still drive my car and feel better moving around in my car then when I walk. But I force myself to walk each day in our park until I have to return. It depends on the air probably. From far Bill looks like a grasshopper (a cut one !)
ReplyDeleteThe mobility scooter is a brilliant idea, and I do like the colour.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures.
Belated birthday wishes to Banjo.
All the best Jan
Bill looks SO happy! That's a snazzy and heavy-duty scooter. Glad he can explore the neighborhood again.
