MONET IN PARIS

Two of the lovely ladies in our art group in the village organised a trip into the city to see the Monet in Paris exhibition. It included other impressionist artists as well. Lynne borrowed the village mini bus and drove us into North Shore. It wasn't an exhibition of real paintings like on the walls of an art gallery but a moving projection of the real works set to the most beautiful classical music. The images were projected onto many screens and the floor. There was also printed information projected onto the screens too. There were different images on different screens but it didn't matter where you stood, sat or wandered you could see them all. It was beautiful and relaxing.

The first room was full of flowers (artificial) but it certainly felt like you were in a Monet painting.

The main hall was huge
The artists thoughts and words were also projected.
The floor changed to match the changing paintings which also moved along the walls sometimes.

After the show we could have a photo taken in a painting.
We could also get painted into a picture in an impressionist style.

When they were projecting Monet's water lily scenes the floor turned into a pond with rippling water. It was amazing. Here is a 25 sec video to hopefully give you an idea what the floor was like. It kept changing to match the paintings.

  1. Art projections would not normally attract me but I think it looks terrific. I must keep an open mind about such things.

  4. Would you have been happy to be a model in a Monet painting, back in the day? Not only did the artist make himself famous throughout his career; his models became famous too :)

  7. That looks wonderful! There was something similar being offered around the U.S. with Van Gogh paintings but we didn’t get to see it. I wonder what the artists would think if they could see what was being done with their work!

  8. I went to one of these on Van Gogh at the Smithsonian. Not sure I enjoyed it as much as looking at the actual paintings in Europe.

  11. It is an interesting way to see their work. Quite different from viewing paintings in an art gallery. I saw the Van Gogh immersive exhibition and thoroughly enjoyed it.

  12. Amazing! It looks like a real pond in the video and loved the snow effect. In fact, I loved all of it! I smiled at the young boy pretending to swim in the video as someone took his photo. Looks like an incredible experience and what a fabulous trip. Photos were great, put me right there. Thanks for sharing them Diane.

  13. I have seen a similar exhibition but with van Gogh ! No real paintings but you got the impression to be in his room I think it was the first they did this way. And honestly it's much better, because the real paintings which I have seen from Monet et van Gogh are very disappointing ! Over the time they have lost their color and finally the replicas looked better then the originals, and showing their paintings this way is much more cheaper, because the insurance for the originals are so high that many museums cannot afford an exhibition. 15. Oh my gosh - what a wonderful exhibition. It looks mesmerizing. Did you ever get a little vertigo from the "moving" floor? Hope you are both doing well - you look great! Barb

  17. Hi Diane, I think I've cracked being able to leave a comment. Finally, I'd nearly given up.
I loved this post. I saw an exhibition of art from the Raphaelite period in Canberra a few years ago and can still close my eyes and see the glorious colours of the Lady of Shallot. I would so love to see Monet's water lillies. That video is amazing, really brings it to life. Thanks for your recent lovely comment on my blog.

  18. There was a similar show to this in Sydney last year. I was tempted to go then didn't, now I think it would have been worthwhile. Thanks for taking me on the excursion.

  21. These 'immersive' art installations are becoming quite popular. It's an interesting way of experiencing the paintings.
