A MORNING'S ENTERTAINMENT

Most of you know that we live in an independent living retirement village. We can't believe that we have been here eight years now. We have never regretted our move. We have lovely neighbours and a supportive village community. We have nice public gardens and many residents have made lovely private gardens.  When we bought our unit, we chose one which overlooks public gardens and the forest beyond. I love looking out of my study window to the lovely trees all different shades of green. However, a problem has occurred with one of the tallest trees in the village, which happens to be across the narrow road from our quadplex building. During the cyclone and the following strong winds, the tree was waving wildly back and forth. Recently after more wind and rain , big heavy branches fell from the tree. Luckily they fell into the garden and not any cars or buildings. Our manager employed an arborist to check on the safety of the tree and to lop dangerous branches. As much as I love trees, I would like to see this one removed. However, the council has strict rules about removing trees. After the tree doctor had been, he said it should be removed so a request and report has been lodged with the council. In the meant time a very brave tree lopper climbed the tree and removed some dangerous branches. It kept us and the neighbours entertained for the morning.

I took this photos from our balcony and against the sun.

Bill and some neighbours on our entry pathway. We have an upper apartment there is a garden apartment below us.

There were other men retrieving the branches as they fell.
one comes down.

Into the noisy hungry mulcher.

Down he comes in one piece.

Watch him swinging in the tree with a chain saw.

  2. Hello,
Those workers are brave to be climbing the tree and cutting down branches.
We had to have a few trees growing too close to our house removed.
It is sad to loose a big beautiful tree, but it is best to be safe.
Take care, have a great day and a happy week ahead.

  3. Well I'm happy to read that the tree didn't fall in the wrong place. So much bull attached to getting a tree removed these days. I do like trees of course but!

  4. The tree needs to be removed. It's not like you don't have plenty more. I love watching the chipping machines eat up branches.

  5. That reminds me when we had to get rid of our weeping willow which had become a monster, far too high and the worst were the roots, they grew and grew and nearly demolished our terrace ! So I nearly have the same pictures, After the tree was gone we were sad and our cats too, because the loved to climb on it and we loved to sit under the tree when it was hot !

  6. we have had over the last 35 years, 7 trees removed at a really high cost, and I watched every single one of them cut and had a blast doing it and taking photos. just like you did. glad its not your responsibility. they sure have a dangerous job

  7. You have spent eight years in your Independant Living apartment? Time flies! I know you and Bill love it there, Diane.
That tree is very tall and I can see why you are a bit worried about it being a hazard. My neighbor has equally tall trees on her propperty which are also a concern to me if a bad storm comes around.
