ONE MORE IN 1974

Continuing My Story

In September 1974 Sonya rushed into our lives. I woke up at 5:30 am on a Saturday morning and said to Bill the baby is on the way. He called an ambulance and then stayed home and looked after Carol while I tried to stop the baby being born in the ambulance. She was in a hurry to join us and arrived as soon as I was at the hospital at about 6:30am. A one hour labour, I couldn't believe it.

My mother and Aunt flew from Sydney to help out. My dad had to work in Sydney and Bill had to work in Brisbane.

It was great having the help as two little ones were a bit demanding, night and day. Carol was 2 yrs and 3 months and was in the process of toilet training. Too soon Mum and Aunt flew back to Sydney.

By the time Sonya was two months we only had one in nappies thank goodness. I was hoping Carol would cope with having competition and she did well most of the time.

Sonya loved watching Carol play.

Sisters bonding. I was proud of our two little girls but I was also tired.

  1. I love all your old photos and they are so nice and clear. You certainly did have a short labour with your daughter. That is probably a good thing though I'm sure you were grateful she wasn't born enroute to hospital. It was lovely that your mother and aunt helped you. It is hard to get enough sleep let alone look after several little ones at once.
